Pros

Serving those with mental illness and/or substance abuse.

Cons

Horrible upper management. Didn’t have mental health issues before you start? Don’t worry, you will soon. Felt like I was playing office with 5 year olds. Policies are forever changing and management can’t just get their stuff together and find ONE way to do things. Instead they roll out ideas without thinking them all the way through. Monthly meeting is chaotic and disorganized. They need to streamline things and really get it together but instead they are worried about things like having cords showing in the waiting room, watering pot for plants out where patients can see it and more. Very upset with myself for using my own money to purchase office things in order to be up to snuff. Place caused me more anxiety than I’ve ever known. Still suffering from dreams about it.

Pros

Supervision and some internal CEUs are provided. You can be flexible with your schedule. My office is very supportive and I have good coworkers.

Cons

I was warned about burnout and too many clients, but my experience was the opposite. I have not been able to build a caseload in a year and am being forced to part-time with loss of some benefits because there aren't enough intakes. I am not the only person in my office experiencing this. The pay is low as well, there is no stipend or reimbursement for training outside of the company even while the company does not offer specific modality training, and the company has cut salary pay model as well as cutting several holidays including Juneteenth. The company's actions continue to show that they care for profit over people.
