Pros

- The product generally works well, and it's very easy to implement vs other SaaS programs in other industries. - It's a necessity item for lots of businesses, meaning that the opportunity to outbound and build value is always there - The teammates I had while at Samsara were great people - The ramping quota system allows for big commission dollars when you first start - Likely a solid job if you're just starting your career in sales and want to really dig into a specific industry.

Cons

- You'll never actually fully understand what these products do, what it's like to use/install it, nor have the resources to find out. Teammates constantly have to rely on each other to get questions answered about the products for prospective clients and the solutions are always a "best-guess" scenario - It's a lower base salary and commission structure for comparable sales roles - Managers control every aspect of your day down to the minute. Upper management is virtually non-existent, outside of numerous emails a day with information that contradicts itself. - More than anything, the job security is a joke. You will be fired with no warning for missing a single quarter. - Shortly after starting my role and finishing training my manager took a near two month sabbatical that resulted in nearly the entire team missing quota, and 4 of my teammates either quit or were fired during that time. - It doesn't really feel like a true honest sales org. You'll feel like a number instead of a human being because that is the way the company views you.

Pros

Innovative product, constantly growing the platform

Cons

Compensation doesn’t feel competitive for the workload and expectations of the role. Frequent annual changes—including territory realignments, account books, verticalization, and quota adjustments—create unnecessary disruption and make it difficult to build long-term customer relationships and pipeline. The company has grown rapidly, but account distribution hasn’t always kept pace with headcount, leaving many reps competing for limited opportunity and making OTE difficult to achieve consistently. The Team Lead role is one of the biggest pain points. Team Leads are expected to operate like frontline managers without the compensation or authority that comes with a management position. They carry a fully ramped quota while also traveling, mentoring new hires, leading office hours, answering rep questions, supporting onboarding, and taking on enablement responsibilities. While these leadership opportunities can be rewarding, they often come at the expense of selling time and make it significantly harder to hit quota.
