Hired professors to manage teams of people, when professors are notorious for having terrible management practices. Most have never had management training.
There was no north-star research prerogative. Communication was poor between departments and other Samsung subsidiaries. I didn't even know who my HR person was if I needed to contact someone. The lab admin told me just to tell them, which is not ideal.
My manager was vague in all feedback but highly opinionated. He couldn't determine a direction for the lab. He yelled at and berated people in team meetings. He micromanaged people and fired people he didn't like. He gave promotions and raises to people that agreed with him the most instead of to the high performers, and therefore lost many high performers.
