Pros

Samsung has a big brand which makes it possible to get meetings with people external to the company. Once you leave though, everyone is aware of the reputation of SRA in SV. On the plus side, everyone will understand why you left.

Cons

The culture of Samsung involves lots and lots of dispatchers from the home office who have created a culture of hoarding information, spying, and control. Local hires that are in leaderships are compensated extremely well and so they act in a way that will ensure their continued employment. The time you spend here will be spent learning how to operate within Samsung without learning things that will help you outside of Samsung. As you will see, I gave a lot of stars to compensation because they have to pay everyone a ton of money to work there. They also give titles away. Everyone is senior or a director or a senior director. Amusingly, the first President they hired to oversee software development in Mountain View comes out of 20 years at the home office. He originally started as a tanker ship designer. This is a company which does not trust instinct, taste, employees, or customers. If a VP did not think of the idea, it's obviously terrible. Unless those come from Apple in which case they are all over it. Case in point...the Samsung watch did not exist until Apple rumors of a watch percolated. The Samsung connected home was a back burner item until HomeKit was announced during 2013 WWDC.

Thank you for the review. These claims of spying and hoarding information are extremely troubling and does not represent the culture we expect from our team at SRA. We aim to be at the forefront of innovation and research through collaboration. Therefore, it would greatly help if you could contact me at erica.ho@partner.samsung.com so that I can better understand your concern about management and provide the appreciation our employees deserve.

Pros

Samsung is a place where you grow quickly — sometimes because you want to, sometimes because you have to. The pace is intense, but the learning curve is unmatched. The people are smart, driven, and genuinely care about building great products. The cross‑cultural environment can be challenging at times, but it also makes you a stronger communicator and operator. If you’re adaptable, curious, and energized by global teamwork, you’ll thrive here.

Cons

Priorities can shift overnight, and you need to be comfortable with constant change. Meetings with Korea can stretch your day. Some teams still operate with a top‑down culture, which may feel rigid if you’re used to Silicon Valley‑style autonomy.
