Pros
Remote work, flexibility with schedules, great coworkers (minus management) and you get paid every 2 weeks.
Cons
Pay is below average, and No advancement offered in the Engineering department. You are lucky to get a 2% pay raise a year, one year there was no raise, and/or a yearly bonus. As of 2023 you must do performance reviews 2 times a year, but the kicker is they have nothing to do with your raise or bonus. Raises are determined by the Executive Committee, who pulls numbers out of a hat. So, you are a name on a piece of paper that they jot down what they think is fair to give. No ability to better yourself and your skills because you are too busy tackling whatever initiatives they dream up daily/weekly and drowning in unrealistic date driven work on top of being understaffed. Everything is on fire every day and must be done yesterday! Very reactive, toxic environment. Their version of training is going through tons of Confluence\Knowledge pages written by others in the company, or you can search on YouTube for whatever you need. Basically, the only training offered is whatever’s free that you can find on your own time because there’s no time to search or learn during working hours. At least 5 layoffs in 5 years. They keep hiring VP and Executive positions while all the other workers are overworked, understaffed, and burned out. There are 16 VPs and 5 of them are in Engineering! On 3/31/23 they did a cost reduction and laid off a bunch of necessary, knowledgeable personnel (not executives or managers, of course). Then on 4/3/23 they stated that we received the first phase of additional investments from AKKR! They are continuing to lay off small groups of people monthly even into 2024 and when they lay you off, they don’t even notify your direct manager that you are no longer with the company! They laid off extremely knowledgeable consultants and full-time employees that had been there for 10 to 15 years and replaced them with cheaper labor from India. Contractors have no access to production, but they are required to solve issues that only happen in the production environment! Unfortunately, they let go most of the full-time employees that would have access so no one can even assist the contractors. It is a constant roadblock and contributes to not meeting customer deadlines! During all these cost cutting measures that require them to lay off all of these knowledgeable people, they waste money on marketing materials like engraved notepads, hoodies, coffee mugs, pens, etc, flying people to meetings in different cities, cocktail hour for certain employees at fancy restaurants in NY, just to name a few so you can say there is a lot of mismanagement of money and poor decision making. The remote work is great except they expect half of engineering and product members to work @3am every month (sometimes multiple times a month) along with nightly maintenance windows usually several times a month. Management sets expectations that their direct reports should work over 8 hours a day with no regard for a personal life. If you don’t disable all Teams notifications after work hours, they will contact you to work at all hours of the night. The benefits are expensive, have large out of pocket amounts, and high deductibles. The 401k match is extremely small compared to other companies. You accrue vacation time and sick time every year but if you leave the company and have vacation time accrued, you lose it. They will NO longer pay you for unused vacation. Only certain people get promoted. Favoritism is prominent in the organization and the executive team love to bring in their friends/buddies from other organizations they worked with regardless of whether they are qualified for that position. You are required to track every minute of your day in a project timesheet and fill out a 2nd timesheet in another system just for payroll. They keep switching the product teams up constantly or splitting them into two teams, then putting them back together. Then splitting them up again. This company DOES NOT have an open-door policy. If you vent any frustration about decisions made to management, they will run to HR and have them contact you over it. You must be very careful about what you do or say. This company’s number one issue is communication and obviously a trust issue. It is sad when you cannot even talk openly with your direct manager.
