Pros

The frontline staff are extremely dedicated people who really care about others. They work their fingers to the bone for this place.

Cons

Sanford as a whole cares little for their employees and would prefer to employ robots. Money is now the main focus and "expanding their footprint" so the CEO can leave his legacy. You want proof Sanford is really slipping? In the latest annual "Best of" Issue in Sioux Falls, Sanford isn't even listed as a top 5 of health care options in the area, and there really are only 2, Avera and Sanford. Each year, when were given the report on how we did, actual healthcare for our patients is never even mentioned, just how much money we did or didn't make. That's the focus. On our strategic plans, there is nothing about improving the actual care we give patients, just expanding our research and footprint. Sanford is no longer in the actual patient care business, if you listen to corporate leadership. Last but not least, they mislead you on your benefits. When it comes to PTO, they tell you start off with earning 7.1 hours per pay period, which sounds OK. What they don't tell you is that you MUST use PTO hours on all holidays. They don't pay you for holidays and they don't let you work them, unless you're in direct patient care. They force you to take the day off and use your PTO hours, whether you want to or not.

Pros

There are no pros to working at Sunset Drive

Cons

High turn over rate for a reason. The management is horrendous above all else. Forces CNAs to work severely understaffed, sometimes alone to a 40 patient unit. They treat their employees like they are disposable and show absolutely zero appreciation unless you fall under their favoritism. Promote horrible employees whilst treating the good ones horribly. They expect you to throw your personal life away for the job. Will pick employees up during snow storms but expect them to find their own rides home in an attempt to trap them there to work a double shift when other staff inevitably don’t show up at shift change. They also offer hot meals for those who will stay overnight during predicted snow storms but those hot meals end up being a bag of goldfish and some gram crackers. They threaten to report evening employees for abandonment if they don’t work a double when overnights don’t show up at shift change. The work environment is borderline abusive and is extremely detrimental to a persons mental health. Management also has a tendency to sweep illegal doings under the rug and refuse to cooperate with police when it involves cases pertaining to their residents. Best advice I can give is to stay as far away from this place as possible. They do not care about you.
