Pros
Sanford offered a slightly higher starting wage than Avera did.
Cons
Working at Sanford was an unbelievable nightmare. They intentionally left us understaffed to extent that we were unable to take breaks but then they would reprimand us if we failed to take our 1 hour unpaid lunch. The unspoken expectation was that we were to commit time card fraud and to work off the clock, which I did for the first 6 months until I realized it had become literally an every day event. When I stopped clocking out because we were too busy to take a lunch my supervisor started calling and ordering me to clock out for lunch, so I did and went to lunch but then I was written up for "leaving the lab unattended" during the lunch break I was ordered to take. When I finally complained to HR they told me "that is just how healthcare is and you knew what you were getting into." After complaining to HR my supervisor became increasingly more hostile and angrier and she started using half truths to fabricate reasons to write me up. For example, the nurses came in a threw a bunch of covid samples on the counter while I was drawing a patient so my supervisor wrote me up for "leaving the lab messy and in disarray." I scheduled a few meetings with HR to argue my case but again they blamed me and argued "we all must make sacrifices". I heard after I left that management stopped pressuring people to work off the clock as much. I imagine they were afraid of a lawsuit and rightfully so. Still, if you value your dignity or have a strong moral compass then I would stay far away from this company.
