Pros

It's a job. There is great job security here because other companies in the area pay better and offer better benefit packages. When I was trained I was told specifically to "do just enough to keep supervisors off of your back, but don't do enough to make anybody else look bad"...

Cons

Wages are less than competitive with other orginizations in the region. Overall morale is low. There is a lot of "that's not my job or problem so I am going to pretend I never saw it" kind of attitude around. Everyone I work with (several departments) is either here to get experience so they can go somewhere else, is looking for other work, or is bitter that they don't have any other options. Health benefits are terrible and expensive. I pay 2X what I did with my last job and have half the coverage. During orientation the CEO came in and gave a speech about job satisfaction and how Sanford has a high turnover rate and to let someone know if there is anything they can do to make things better for you before you leave. I have also had a few chats with supervisors about the future and that they want me to stick around and they have big things planned for me. Nobody wants to talk about the low wages or benefits though. Scheduling is terrible. Lots of odd shifts, long stretches (10+ days) without days off, difficult to get PTO time, even for things that were discussed BEFORE I accepted the position when they asked if there were any upcoming commitments that I had to meet.

Pros

There are no pros to working at Sunset Drive

Cons

High turn over rate for a reason. The management is horrendous above all else. Forces CNAs to work severely understaffed, sometimes alone to a 40 patient unit. They treat their employees like they are disposable and show absolutely zero appreciation unless you fall under their favoritism. Promote horrible employees whilst treating the good ones horribly. They expect you to throw your personal life away for the job. Will pick employees up during snow storms but expect them to find their own rides home in an attempt to trap them there to work a double shift when other staff inevitably don’t show up at shift change. They also offer hot meals for those who will stay overnight during predicted snow storms but those hot meals end up being a bag of goldfish and some gram crackers. They threaten to report evening employees for abandonment if they don’t work a double when overnights don’t show up at shift change. The work environment is borderline abusive and is extremely detrimental to a persons mental health. Management also has a tendency to sweep illegal doings under the rug and refuse to cooperate with police when it involves cases pertaining to their residents. Best advice I can give is to stay as far away from this place as possible. They do not care about you.
