Pros

Great experience for future power engineering prospects with Sargent & Lundy or without Sargent & Lundy. The power engineering experience gained by working for an engineering consultant firm, of this caliber, provides much more diverse exposure to the practices of many clients. This diversity of knowledge adds value to the employee and the employer. The salary is above average. The benefits are average. The perks are above average. The work life balance is sometimes great and sometimes demanding.

Cons

Jobs outside of engineering are not needed at this company. Therefore, any skill set that isn't within the boundaries of the power engineering related discipline are not as valuable. Also, the "centerpiece" for Sargent & Lundy is quality. Adding "Quality" to Sargent & Lundy products is a costly effort, which sometimes causes a distraction to the ultimate goal of customer satisfaction. Too much of the Quality effort erodes other customer objectives.

Pros

Decent pay and interesting projects that allow for good professional development.

Cons

Absolutely horrendous work-life balance. I have been at the company for almost 20 years and their lack of support and flexibility for parents is incredibly disappointing. Going to the office requirements are unrealistic with little kids, and some of the newly minted managers are on a power trip, micromanaging high performers and quoting pto policies if you need to run 30min errands midday.
