Pros
Regular 40 hour schedule. Except when a sale comes, then you're going to be working 8 days straight. And remember to check your pay stub to make sure they paid your overtime.
Cons
There is barely any training. You watch a couple of training videos and then get thrown into a department with people who are SUPPOSED to be training you, but because they are already stressed and over worked and trying to make their quota they end up giving you a task that will help them speed up but not show you how to actually work the department. Then you get in trouble for not knowing what you're doing and not being up to speed. They're asking you to do the work of three people for MINIMUM WAGE. I've worked here for a year and in that time I've been moved around to almost every deparment, sometimes 2 or 3 in ONE day because we are so understaffed. And even though we are short about 5 people we are still expected to put out the same amount as a fully staffed team. If you happen to find a department you actually like and are good at don't expect to stay there for long. I got put in a department I liked and while I was working to standards, meeting and exceeding my daily quota, and raising my department's sales i got pulled after a couple months and put in a department where I'm not as competent and struggle to meet quota. And the person now running my old department has had very minimal training, and still comes to me for every question, so I'm basically doing their job as well. If you show any level of independence or speak your mind in the slightest you will get fired. Questioning your supervisor is almost a guarantee that they will look for any reason to fire you. A recent co worker who was the most outspoken and always tried to stand up for us when she saw someone being treated unfairly was fired after missing two non consecutive days because her daughter was sick, even though she had a doctors note. There is almost no chance of job growth in this company. No one gets promoted. Any management or supervisory positions are hired in not promoted. If you're competent and can do your job and other's jobs for them they'll tell you they're going to start training you for a supervisory position but that day will never come. The managers have no idea what they are doing. There is no communication between managers, which leads to people being told three different things and then getting in trouble when one of them sees you're not doing things exactly like they said. You'll be trained to do something and you'll do it a certain way for months and randomly a manager will start questioning what you're doing, and when you tell them it's the way you were trained to do it they'll give you excuses for why the training was wrong, even when it came straight from their training videos. There is blatant favoritism. People in positions they aren't doing correctly, then everyone has to go and help them catch up so we don't fall behind, meanwhile the person across from them who is holding down a two person department gets no help and is constantly asked why they're not meeting quota. The raises are a joke. One of my coworkers has been working for the company 15 years and is one of the hardest workers, is still making minimum wage because every year the raise they give is $0.05. Five whole cents. One of my other co workers was going to get $0.25 but the manager said it was ridiculous because no one gives raises that big. Pretty much the only pay increase is the minimum wage increase. Our store manager has walked around during a store meeting telling us that were not working hard enough and that we should count ourselves lucky to even have a job because we are all easily replaceable and it's hard to find a job nowadays.
