Good career path, but very hard and soul-sucking work. - Store Manager Savers Employee Review

Pros

Opportunities for promotions (lots of different positions to grow in/career path). Great folks to work with (store team members). Generous bonuses for Store Managers.

Cons

Everything, every single aspect of this job comes down to quotas and efficiencies. It's a very physically and emotionally demanding job. The regional directors are so disconnected and yet always ask for more or will visit your store once a year and have the most unrealistic feedback for you (many times leaving the district managers confused as well). As a manager, your job is to watch every movement of your employees to make sure you meet labor efficiencies. Labor efficiencies and KPI's are very normal for all business, but Savers is unrealistic about efficiencies. It is also a very dirty and unsafe work environment, especially if you work in CDC (donation center) or production. You very often (including managers) have to work with large trash (compactors, large dumpsters, large metal containers) and stack donation bags and boxes into a large trailer. It is a very hard job.

Pros

Discounts. Incredible coworkers. App they use for scheduling and pay is really nice. Always left on time. Relaxed dress code. Schedules came out early.

Cons

Doctor's notes aren't "a valid excuse for absence" ??? You cannot buy anything in the store unless it's been there for two days. The managers are untrained. They refuse to trespass people (even though one customer threw glass onto the floor in a fit of rage and TWICE a fellow coworker's stalker came in and they just had them hide in the back) Most of the managers don't really help on the floor. They refused to put me on registers despite us needing the help and me not only having checkout experience, but I'm also fully trained and capable of being on the register. They pushed my male coworker to the registers even though he didn't have any previous retail experience way sooner than they did me. Schedules would be put out so early you couldn't request time off if something came up.
