Pros
Family oriented company that treat people well. Benefits-like everyone else said Very safe place to work in terms of job security. Depends on what department you're in there's decent chance of moving up every 3-5 yrs or so.
Cons
The company culture as it relates to change. This is a "steady as she goes" kind of company. Anyone that says the company needs to change with the time is right but short-sighted. This company and credit-union has a very targeted mission to serve its members. It aims to do that with minimal overhead which generally will mean less pay than the market and likely to be tough on the frontline roles. Executives are probably aware of this, but believe their value proposition as an employer is stability. They are proud of not firing anyone during the 2008 recession. While the economy was running hot they're not an attractive employer, but as we head into a downturn(s) they could very well be that safe harbor for you. Last note, there's a surprising number of conservatives at the CU for an organization with a lot of POC. I never had any negative experiences with the teammembers with a conservative viewpoint.
