Pros

Great exposure and looks great on a resume

Cons

The work advertised was science oriented. The actual day to day was grunt work including physically demanding lifting and exposure outdoors. Temporary workers or "Interns" were treated as second class citizens by the Scotts company, awkwardly excluded from all full time Scotts employee benefits. Interns were expected to perform physically demanding, repetitive work with very little recognition. While the scientist and managers were professional, the environment was not conducive for long term employment.

Thank you for your honest feedback. The Research and Development intern program has been restructured to designate the fieldwork duties you have described as summer employment. This has resulted in less internship opportunities in Research and Development, however the intern program is now focused on research rather than fieldwork and interns are fully included.

Pros

Amazing work environment. Understanding management. Good pay. Set your own hours. Easy to take time off.

Cons

Working in different weather conditions. Lack of communication. Some people get better hours than others. Hours cut extremely low during summer. Sometimes work load can be too much for one person. No workers compensation. No benefits
