Great organization for volunteers, terrible for professionals. - District Executive Scouting America Employee Review

Pros

It's nice to know that you are doing something that helps kids. If you were in the Scouts as a youth, then it makes you proud to be a professional, at least for a short while.

Cons

You will have to wear an actual BSA uniform at least twice a week. The intelligence of at least half of the professionals is quite low. You are basically an Herbalife or Amway type of direct-sales marketer, albeit for a volunteer organization. Starting pay is horrible especially for the fact that you will be working many late nights and weekends. The council executive's pay is typically 5-7 times higher.

Pros

Good health benefits via UnitedHealth.

Cons

Micromanage, cannot hold a conversation in office in this department without getting in trouble for talking with colleagues. However they expect you to come in 3 days a week at minimum to encourage team collaboration and team building. Meanwhile people who are paid at least 6 figures walk around the office holding conversations about nothing work related or complaining about local council employees and members-as if they do not realize without these very same people they would not have the big houses and fancy cars they own.
