Pros
The mission of delivering Scouting. I was a Boy Scout, and I really believed in this. But goodness this was an ordeal. (see what I did there?) Some of the staff and volunteers are really great too. It was great to be nostalgic about a big formative part of my upbringing... but this whole experience has really tainted that now. You get a lot of PTO... but be ready to be asked to donate it back!
Cons
Having been through it, I wouldn't let anyone I love work here. Long hours, terrible work life balance, unrealistic expectations, unsupportive management, low pay (1-2% raise per year is all you get even if things are going well), long meetings, little diversity, boys club at the top, office politics, basically nonexistent HR, few opportunities for advancement, nonprofit chaos. office is a pigsty with mice and spiders (no really), bad turnover rate, weird sometimes contradictory decisions, plus that huge scandal and bankruptcy. If you are desperate, by all means... but this place will take, take, take from you until you burnout and breakdown and then act like it's all your fault. There is no opportunity here beyond a paycheck. Sure! you get a lot of PTO but using any of it at once is met with a lot of grief, and heaven help you if you try to carry it over. Last year they solicited employees to donate our unused PTO to Scouting so they could make budget. Even if that's legal, it felt really scummy, and made it very clear that we are just being used, our personal lives don't matter to them. Why would them? Turnover is so bad, why take care of anybody? Also the dental is weird.
