      Pros

      I can't speak for the other sites, but at my emergency department, the people I worked with were great! The chief scribe always tried their best to help us out with schedule accommodations, support us with our problems, and more. They definitely went above and beyond their job description. The physicians were wonderful for the most part, and they were willing to guide us and help us do our jobs better. The nurses, techs, other scribes, and other employees were pleasant, as well. The experience I gained in the emergency department was priceless; I experienced things in there that I could never experience elsewhere.

      Cons

      Pay is abysmal, especially considering what is required of the scribes. There are not really chances for formal breaks either. There is also not a great system in the event that you need to call in sick.

      Pros

      Looks good on a resume.

      Cons

      Low pay and poor training. I did like three days of shadowing only, was only exposed to Cerner twice with very little time to explore. My trainer said my HPI’s were good… but then I got an email from the Chief Scribe saying I am missing too much, so I was pretty confused there. I’m with a different doctor every time, right out of the gate. Also, I only applied for one location, and was then assigned to four.
