Pros

As someone who was once interested in pursuing an advanced degree in medicine, the ability to work one-on-one with physicians and advanced care practitioners, in invaluable. You will learn a lot about clinic flow, the medical industry, and gain important exposure to medical language. Get this experience and get out. Or better yet, do a quick Indeed search for a private scribe job and get paid way more money.

Cons

The company was built with the idea that you could pay students "slave wages" because they would do it for the experience. Again, it's wonderful experience, but expect to get paid minimum wage (or slightly higher) to work long-hours and gain a skill-set that is definitely not entry level. Leadership opportunities are few and far between, and also severely underpaid for the work. Where you work will largely determine your work culture, if you have a Chief Scribe/Project Manager or Regional Manager who genuinely cares about you and your development, you may find that you get more out of the job than just the medical experience. However, more often than not, scribes tend to be fairly unhappy with the working conditions. DO NOT MOVE UP IN THIS COMPANY! I stayed with this company for close to a decade, and wish I had only stayed for 1-2 years. ScribeAmerica formerly offered traveling project managers six-figure salaries and the opportunity to have medical school paid for. These incentives have disappeared over time, and continue to shrink. The current pay for traveling (junior) Project Managers is $16/hr, regardless of whether you are stationed in San Francisco or rural Iowa. Once you move up to more senior level positions (either Senior Project Manager or Regional Manager), your salary would be significantly higher (though not comparable to similar positions in other companies) and will be largely based on an ever-changing "bonus" system. There is no stability and the benefits are poor at best. Overall, ScribeAmerica is much more interested in making as much money as possible before the scribe industry collapses and are willing to use and abuse people in order to do so. Stay away.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. Welcome to the ScribeAmerica team! We are so glad to hear you are having a great experience with us so far, and we are very excited to help you prepare for whatever your future career goals are. As a reminder, we do offer a referral bonus for anybody you refer to work with ScribeAmerica, so please talk with your manager to get all the details on that. We also do like to promote from within and a large portion of our higher level management/corporate roles/etc all started out as scribes themselves. If you ever have an interest in learning more about other roles that would be available to you, or ways to prepare to apply to those types of roles, please feel free to reach out to tasupport@scribeamerica.com and we would be happy to talk with you further.
