The marketing department's culture is wildly inconsistent. As mentioned above, some people are creative, professional, and a joy to work with on an individual level.
But leadership appears to be plagued with cliquishness and internal politics. In my personal experience, if you–or your boss–do not curry favor with certain people, you will likely have negative experiences until you are pushed out. Additionally, they seem to value results more than the individuals or teams that helped to create them, which can lead to burnout.
I would also describe some of what I witnessed and/or heard about as bullying. But nothing ever seemed to be done about it, possibly because of the relative social power of the individuals involved.
Marketing also describes itself as having a “feedback culture,” when my lived reality suggests otherwise. Leaders claim to be open to feedback, when in reality, they only appear capable of delivering harsh, unconstructive criticism while closing themselves off to receiving it.
I’m not comfortable sharing any specific details. And my experience would suggest that none of it will be taken seriously. Nevertheless, I hope that the organization takes steps in the right direction to foster a healthier and more accountable environment.
