Pros

-I formed strong bonds with my co-workers, but this was due in part to the fact that we were all mutually miserable, and needed something to get us through the tough days. -I was started at a competitive wage (for a grocery store), but found out I was making almost $3/hour more than employees working in my same position, so I am not sure I could full consider that a pro. -I got a 10% discount for being a full-time employee... but again, this basically served to offset the inflation in prices compared to other grocery stores.

Cons

-Management is just laughable, terrible, really the worst I've ever seen, and I've worked in several workplaces in my day. From micromanagement to fear-mongering, the environment of this place is purely toxic and it is due very much to the incompetence of the management team. Or in our case, one particular individual. Whenever she walks into the store, every employee sheds a tear. -CUSTOMERS. I'm sorry but the people I've been catering to have been some of the worst, most condescending, ridiculous, demanding people I've ever worked with. I used to know some of the same demographic in a previous job, and man, when you put them in a hoity-toity grocery store, you really see them in a different light. It's like the employees are just pieces of trash who are simultaneously doing everything possible to meet customers' expectations. -Budget cuts/staffing crises. Since I started our department lost several key employees, and did not work to hire anyone to replace them because upper management kept slashing our hours. Combine that with a lax attitude toward calling in sick or just not even showing up for shifts, and we end up being chronically, severely understaffed with no attention being paid to the training needs of any new hires. Naturally all this gets put on the shoulders of me and my team of leads though the scheduling decisions have nothing to do with us, and according to the law we still have to offer breaks and lunches to everyone who decides to show up. -Monetary compensation, while perhaps starting competitively for me in particular, doesn't go anywhere. Raises are given selectively, with the highest I've seen being 4% for a part-time employee.
