I took this job as a nursing student to help with school expenses. Some of the clients were nice, some very difficult. It was good if you could get a steady client with set hours which was rare.
Cons
Some of the clients were nice, others, quite frankly, needed skilled nursing care which the agency legally could not provide but had us do anyway (note: no RN on staff) such as wound care for diabetics with decubitus ulcers. I left for this reason. Also, the pay was low but then it's like that in this industry. They charge clients $275/24 live-in care and pay workers $110 A DAY. That's $4.50/hr! No benefits of any kind nor overtime. Honestly my agency hired many shady types for the live-in assignments, one girl was actually homeless. Think about it. You get what you pay for. The average hourly rate when I left was still $10/hr. and I started in 2009 with THE SAME RATE. That means no raise in SEVEN years. You are better off doing your own background checks, TB screens, references and presenting them to clients and do private duty for $15/hr. since they charge clients $23. You can get liability insurance for yourself for $150/yr.
