Pros

You could eat/prepare whatever you wanted, and had a lot of freedom. Some of the residents and co workers were really cool to work with.

Cons

This was a job I picked up after the disaster that was my previous job, and for about the first week or two everything was great. I had about 3-4 days off every week, a lot of freedom, could cook about whatever I wanted but mostly just followed the recipes. After about a week or two everything started to go downhill. I got about 3-4 days of training and was expected to know everything by then. I was told it would take this amount of time to cook this or that, and would often take much longer to cook. When I started I didn't have a lot of the supplements I have now to help me with my disability. From the get go it seemed like some people just didn't like me for some reason or had it out for me. There was only 1-2 cooks at a time and was expected to clean, prep and cook all my food, and help others as well. We had to clock off at a certain time and there was no over time at all (or you would be punished!). I've had several bad experiences working there. One was I was covering a morning shift, and no one left a key to get into the locked pantry, office door, and refrigerator, so for about an hour was trying to frantically find a way to get into any of them and finally got my boss to drive and get me the key, because luckily a coworker of mine (who only worked there a total of like one month) had her number. I then get chewed out because I didn't have the key and was behind schedule, when I didn't have anything I could do to prep. Was always told to work faster and better, despite me having a disability. I tried to keep it a secret but that was something I should have been more forward about. Was talked to once about my bad job performance when I was really trying, told to "grow a pair" (which I find an outdated, unfair and sexist thing to say), and do my job better or was being fired and replaced. I was told to help out others, work your hardest, when I stayed after nearly every day I worked there. I also had to cover two shifts and work about 12 hours one day as well. There was one incident which I may be being overly sensitive about but I find offensive because due to my disability I have brain fog and my supervisor would say "use your brain", which I find very offensive for someone that deals with a lot of brain fog. One incident was that I set a blender full of someone's shake in the refrigerator, and usually I put it into a container of some kind but was in a rush. Someone comes in there to get something and knocks the blender down. The next couple of days my boss tells me about it and somehow blames it on me (ok?) and tells me to use my brain while one of my other coworkers who doesn't like me snickers (I felt really embarrassed and affronted to be honest). They also don't have servers, serve the food, they have the caregivers serve them. Also they had this new setup, like a restaurant set up where they take orders off a menu (like in a restaurant) and they get their order. This may work in a restaurant when people come down at different times but when you have to serve like 50 people at once its very slow, and would bog down the whole process. Also they cut my hours, each day by about 30 minutes to an hour and expected me to get the same amount of work done, and clocked out as well (because overtime is frowned upon there?? :S). They out of nowhere fired me after one warning and basically said that over one weekend If I don't improve I will be fired or have to quit, i choose to quit.
