You’re right, when it comes to our company and our employees, we do take things very personally. We’re passionate about our company’s success and take accountability for every failure. With regards to our huge targets I’d see this as a compliment! It’s a testament to our faith in our employees’ competencies - developers and business teams alike.
You’re also right about our lack of planning - we acknowledged this was a shortcoming, which is why we hosted full-day planning offsites for each team, and a lunch and learn for the company as a whole. There will undoubtedly be more skillsets that we need but lack internally, and we’re committed to hiring expertise to fill the gaps and providing training opportunities.
With regards to being too enterprise-like, we believe this is a misnomer. We are dedicated to serving our clients, which happen to be large, established financial institutions. These organizations expect us to adhere to their standards. While this means we have to implement process and professionalism, it does not come at the expense of innovation and autonomy. We know that striking a balance––startup culture with enterprise standards––hasn’t been easy, and we are not surprised that some employees have opted out of the journey. We do our best to retain everyone, but unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all culture.
