I’ve been in the government contractor game for years and this is the worst company I’ve been contracted under by far - Anonymous employee Serco Group Employee Review

Pros

I’m a contractor employee that was picked up via the acquisition of a small company. The ONLY pro has been that generally speaking, I do not have to deal with the ineptitude of this company during my day-to-day.

Cons

Everything from the acquisition of the company I worked for to the overall handlings of how this company treats its employees has been absolutely brutal. You are a number to this company — a faceless, soulless “thing” that they own. You are in no way incentivized to work for this company outside of the paycheck you are cut, but even that is not enough for this company. I’ve worked hours outside of what I’m contracted to perform to handle “company requirements” that have turned out to be nothing more than a power trip by my immediate superior. Complaining about those “requirements” falls on deaf ears by their immediate supervisor who listens to whatever justification my immediate supervisor provides them without questioning it. There is not a single colleague of mine on my contract that is happy with our supervisor or our company. The only reason we stay put is because our client-site jobs and the people we work with there are worth sticking around for. If you are a prospective employee: on-the-spot bonuses are non-existent despite the company stating otherwise. There is NO holiday bonus whatsoever. Not even a pat on the back. While other companies were showing how they supported women after Roe was overturned, this company turned a blind eye. In my annual review, I was told I would be getting a 3% raise due to above and beyond performance, but only received 2%. I could state so many other issues but doing so would compromise what little anonymity I have in posting this, and as a current employee, I do fear retaliation.

Pros

You get to directly impact clients' success. "Decent" pay for the location.

Cons

Leadership will shift blame onto teams instead of taking accountability for their own shortcomings, and Program Managers won't take the time to seek clarification, leading to misinformed decisions and unfair outcomes. They are more focused on internal politics and protecting their seat than recognizing or rewarding actual contributions. You can work hard for years with consistently strong performance and still be passed over for promotion in favor of someone who has built the right relationships with management, even if the have not proven themselves yet. Support is subpar. Employees often spend more time troubleshooting issues themselves than receiving timely or effective assistance.
