Pros

This firm really respects the individual. Management is by exception, instead of hampering all employees with a bunch of policies to address the misbehavior of an occasional individual. Very refreshing and unusual in today's world, especially for a firm of this size. You really are in charge of your career here at Serco. If I just want to keep my client happy and enjoy my family, that is acceptable to Serco. If I want to put my extra time and energy into attending Webinars and creating a community of practice for Serco, they are pleased to let me do that.

Cons

If you are used to being micro managed, you might not like Serco. Also, because Serco does not force lots of "Serco requirements" on its consultants, you can become embedded with your client and "go native". You need to make an effort to stay connected to Serco because they will not intentionally pull you away from your client for little required Serco "drink the Koolaid" parties.

Pros

You get to directly impact clients' success. "Decent" pay for the location.

Cons

Leadership will shift blame onto teams instead of taking accountability for their own shortcomings, and Program Managers won't take the time to seek clarification, leading to misinformed decisions and unfair outcomes. They are more focused on internal politics and protecting their seat than recognizing or rewarding actual contributions. You can work hard for years with consistently strong performance and still be passed over for promotion in favor of someone who has built the right relationships with management, even if the have not proven themselves yet. Support is subpar. Employees often spend more time troubleshooting issues themselves than receiving timely or effective assistance.
