Pros

The underlying technology is genuinely impressive and has real potential if managed properly. The engineers are highly skilled and collaborative; they’re the main reason any progress happens at all. Working alongside them can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding.

Cons

It’s hard to overstate how frustrating it is to work for a company where priorities change on a whim, often without explanation or concern for the people carrying out the real work. The executives seem entirely disconnected from the realities on the ground. Safety issues are brushed aside, deadlines override sound engineering judgment, and employees are expected to comply rather than question. The fact that serious incidents haven’t occurred is due entirely to the competence of the engineers—not the leadership. What’s even more disheartening is the complete lack of respect for employees. During the most recent mass furlough and layoff, communication was virtually nonexistent. People learned about losing their jobs through a generic email, and no one from leadership reached out personally—not even the CEO. Only after complaints were raised did the company attempt to provide minimal clarification, long after the damage was done. The hypocrisy is staggering. Executives publicly praise the company’s “values” and thank investors for their “trust,” yet they show none of that respect to the people who actually built and sustained the operation through constant uncertainty. After more than ten years, there is still no real, deliverable product and no one to buy into the delusion; just lofty claims and polished presentations that feel increasingly detached from reality. Working here leaves you feeling that the company’s greatest achievement is not innovation, but maintaining an illusion. 10 years with no real product- the company is selling science fiction.

Pros

Interesting technology, not much to worry about in terms of caustic culture or office politics from the perspective of an IC

Cons

Lack of any kind of company culture, identity, or sense of camaraderie. People are there to get in and get out. The company seems to be run by people from large organizations who want to run a startup the same way as the company they came from, so there is too much process and overhead, while departments are simultaneously siloed enough that no one knows what is going on. Result is a company that burns lots of money and struggles to move forward.
