Pros

Remote work is great, and there's a laid-back work environment with leaders who don't micromanage, giving you the freedom to be as creative as you want. There's appreciation and openness to new sales approaches and strategies. It's a small company, so if you perform well, you get a lot of visibility from direct leaders all the way up to execs.

Cons

I started at Sezzle with high hopes and genuine optimism about making a difference in the BNPL space. However, it turned out to be a tougher sell than I anticipated. The competition is fierce, with major players having a clear advantage over Sezzle. I knew I'd need to tap into my creativity, but that excitement was short-lived. Certain processes at Sezzle didn't sit well with me, especially how reps from top to bottom were placing orders on their deals to activate commissions. It became evident that belief in the product was lacking. The values and opportunities presented to merchants I found less genuine as reps resorted to placing orders with their own money just to secure a commission. I got the impression that no one believed in what they were sharing with merchants. This was quite a departure from the industry practices I was accustomed to. During my time, success seemed disproportionately tied to having access to untouched territories (AKA no major BNPL would work with merchants), like CBD/Weapons, leaving other reps in fashion/beauty/health etc struggling to keep up. Even a 'bottom feeders' meeting was held to discuss strategies. Unfortunately, the lack of representation at Sezzle was glaring, especially in my department. In 2023, it's disheartening that there was no one who looked like me. Sezzle needs to step up its DEI efforts. In the end, I felt out of place during my time here. I wouldn't recommend working here due to the challenges. Post-exit, I discovered that the base pay is significantly lower than other tech companies offering the same role without the multitude of responsibilities. If considering an offer, seek a thorough understanding of compensation, payouts, territories, and recent performances on the territory you have. Ensure you're looking at the latest data, not just figures from 2020 or 2021.
