Huge issues - Analyst Shasta County Employee Review

So much! There are huge issues here that management are well aware of, but not doing anything about. 1. All staff who get hired are classified as a "Disaster Service Worker," which means that in an emergency you will be called on to do different things to support the community. When you're hired they tell you that you will never have to do anything that would be outside the realm of your actual job. This is 100% false. During the covid response they made it so you had to put in a special request to take any vacation time. They are forcing staff to work in positions far out of class with no training and no adequate pay. When we asked for fair pay they sent a highly condescending letter explaining that because of the DSW classification, they can do what ever they want with us for as long as they want. 1. Racism - the Mental Health department recently created a racial bias education class. But one woman attended and was "offended" by it, so the program manager decided to cancel it...without even reviewing the class herself. The woman who created the class is wonderful and now dealing with a ton of racism directly in the workplace. No one will even speak to her, they only go through her white co-workers. 3. Homophobia - I have first hand witnessed staff using gay as a slur and things like not allowing the public health department to release a video if it has two women who are dating. They really need to be able to serve all populations if they are going to be working with the public. They've implemented several employee satisfaction surveys over the years that always come back with the same responses: people do not feel emotionally safe at the work place and they do not receive fair treatment by managers. So we know that the highest forms of leadership are well aware of the issue, they just don't care to do anything about it. If you value your mental health in any way, DO NOT WORK HERE.
