Pros
Good work life balance. My supervisor is completing understanding and supportive when family emergencies arise. My supervisor was also willing to work with me to create the perfect work schedule so I could balance the needs of my family while also continuing to grow in my career. Competitive salary: Shepherd Center has been proactive in doing market analyses and has adjusted my salary to make sure it is competitive in my field. Good employee retention rate. I have been pleasantly surprised by how long employees stay at Shepherd for. Shepherd takes care of its employees and cares about frequent employee feedback! This is the first job and team that I have worked with where I am genuinely excited to go to work every day. Shepherd has a great, collaborative, positive environment where everyone motivates each other to continually learn and provide the best care possible for patients.
Cons
For some of the more specialized departments within Shepherd, there is a tendency to hire internal candidates, so as an outside candidate it can be hard to get that dream job immediately if you are not willing to work in another department first. As with every therapy job I have had, there does not seem to be enough hours in the work day to complete all the necessary documentation, follow up with patients, and respond to emails. I do work a lot outside of my paid hours to catch up with work.
