Pros

Good benefits, moderate salary plus bonus range, able to build relationships with contractors, good training programs

Cons

During my time with Sherwin-Williams, I experienced what I felt was clear favoritism from district leadership. One of the most frustrating situations involved a key account worth approximately $200,000. Even though the customer had already started the project through my store the previous year, I was pressured to transfer the business to a larger store because it was more beneficial for district performance metrics. The situation escalated to the point where the other store reportedly told the customer that purchasing through them would be better for risk management purposes. When I expressed concerns and did not immediately agree to the transfer, district leadership elevated the issue all the way to the VP level before I finally complied. Afterward, I felt I was treated negatively by district leadership for years because I challenged the decision. Staffing support was another major issue. There were multiple occasions when vacations and employee emergencies left me operating the store alone. I worked open-to-close, seven days a week, for as long as four consecutive weeks. When I asked district management for assistance, I was told they could not help. At the same time, there were two Assistant Managers-in-Training (floaters) assigned to a larger store that already had ample staffing, while my store received no support. Work-life balance was poor overall. While managers are expected to work 48 hours per week, I consistently averaged closer to 55 hours or more. Ultimately, I was terminated over an inventory mistake involving less than $500. This was my first disciplinary issue of that nature during my time in the role and did not reflect the years of extra hours and commitment I had given to the company.

Pros

easy job with little work load and decent customer base

Cons

they cut my 401k for 6 months with no mention of when it was coming back, terrible CEO that everyone hated who cut jobs to save money for a new headquarter that we absolutely did NOT need, bought a random argentinian paint company to monopolize an already dying business and put the cost back onto the consumer by charging way more for paint. They also give discounts to national brands and apartment complexes that are literally less than what the store charges for paint and forces us to sell to them, losing money in the process ( for the individual stores but making them money since they own the whole manufacturing and distribution process and up-charge stores for products they require us to sell ). Overall climbing up the ladder is easy but upper management suck and will make any good hearted, hardworking manager quit in the long run.
