Pros

If you're working in a store setting, which is probably 90% of the jobs, unless you live in Cleveland, Ohio, then you need to remember that it is ultimately retail sales. Sherwin Williams is a great company, they have a lot to offer to those who want it, but also put in the effort to get it. The management trainee program is great for a college graduate, if you think you will enjoy SALES. As an assistant manager in an Sherwin store, you will not do a whole lot of "managing", you're mainly assisting with growing the business, and assisting with day to day operational tasks. At the end of the day what matters is that your store is performing at budget or better, and that you're doing things the RIGHT way. Managers and Assistants have the potential to bonus, and when you hit your budget, or go above it, the bonus can be great. Starting salary right out of college is very good! The majority of the people I work with are amazing, high energy, fun people.

Cons

These are not cons, I'm simply stating some parts of the job that people might complain about from time to time. Assistants are required to work 44hrs/week and managers 48hrs/week. If you're looking for a 9 to 5, this is not the job for you! You will rotate weekends, no getting around it. If you don't like the thought of lifting a 5 gallon bucket of paint that weighs anywhere from 50 to 70 pounds in some cases, this is not the job for you. If you don't like standing, look elsewhere. If you do not want to make 40 to 50 calls per week to painting contractors in order to build relationships with them, and promote new products, this is not the job for you. If you don't want to look for ways to grow sales, move on. If you are a female and don't like the thought of being subject to sexist comments, or get hit on by customers, you might want work in a different industry.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
