Pros
Shoe dept is a great place to work at if you are a college student working part time to get through college. I have been here for over a year now, and have had very few bad experiences. I am a part time sales associate. You get paid minimum wage, and then you get 7% commission on all of your sales. You only get commission if you sell enough to make up for the minimum wage. For example Minimum wage is $7.95 here in ohio. To make Commission, you must sell $115 an hr. For the past year i have rarely made under $10 an hr, averaging $12 an hr. I work 20-25 hrs a week. In the summer for back to school, and right now for christmas, I easily can make $15 an hr. The pay makes up for the few bad things about the company. It definitely makes you strive to work harder, because of that incentive of commission for a "bonus" each paycheck. My manager is very friendly and treats all the staff as family, in fact all of the management is very friendly. They do well with working around my college schedule, and if you do as you're told, you will get many bonuses for being a favorite, such as all the days off that you want.
Cons
No paid vacation, but it's a part time position. Key Holders, which are assistant managers, sometimes don't make as much as sales associates, due to the key holders having to deal with other issues, besides selling, such as markdowns, shipment, and returns. Computers run on dial up, so the registers run slow, but you get used to it fast. sometimes i wish there was a set pay for sales associates, instead of having to sell shoes to make good money. then again, it's part time, what do you expect, you work harder, you get a bigger bonus on each paycheck.
