Pros
- Extremely smart and kind coworkers. - Excellent devops. - A company culture that is very intentional.
Cons
Shopify is extremely intentional. Often, this is good. For such a large company, there is little bureaucracy. If leadership decides powerful new Macbooks will increase productivity, they make it happen and order the entire company new laptops. However, the flip side is that when they leadership decides on something that negatively impacts employees (e.g. layoffs, re-orgs, banning useful tools and software used by employees, introducing inefficient processes, etc.), they JUST DO IT with absolutely zero transparency or discussion. Worse, the leadership has become extremely detached from employees and are starting to make more of these negative impact decisions. Sadly, I feel like Tobi and leadership aren't just out-of-touch with their employees, but have bought into the whole Elon Musk approach of actually having disdain for their employees.
