Pros

Remote is nice, the people you work with day to day can be awesome. The pay is decent, not great but decent.

Cons

Trying to get anything done here is incredibly difficult. They say to think outside the box but when you try to do something new you hear "that's not really the Shopify way". Unless the idea comes from management who has no idea what is and isn't possible, but if it can't be done or it doesn't go well it is your fault. Even though every step you do needs to be approved by someone above you, so nothing you ever do is really your own work. But if it doesn't go well it is your fault. Also people will just be gone, I cannot count the amount of great people I worked with and would be in the middle of a project with who would just be laid off with no idea who would take up the slack, which caused projects to get stalled or just die. Which once again comes back around on you when it wasn't successful or didn't have impact. Do not come to Shopify. You might get lucky and get on a good team with a manager that won't micromanage you and gaslight you during your time. But it is more likely that it will happen to you also. Also the new promotions and pay raises are a joke. You will not get either.

Pros

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

High comp and AI forward. One of the few remote places left.

Cons

Upper management basically openly disdains the “working class”, and it’s a major jostle among the VP and Director level for currying favor with the CEO. The investment in AI tooling is smart but also the C suite majorly suffers from AI psychosis, it’s embarrassing, actually.
