Pros
I worked at Shurwest from late 2011 through mid-2014. I technically didn't leave the company, as I was promoted to a company owned by Shurwest's owner. My time with Shurwest was great. I was immediately greeted and included as one of the team and started contributing day one. I was given the freedom to use my skills and abilities without being micromanaged, and I was given multiple opportunities to elevate myself and my career. I was always treated with respect and dignity, even in cases where there were disagreements. In my time there, I created many friendships with people across the company that remain to this day.
Cons
I don't really have any cons as my experience was extremely positive, but I understand not everyone would thrive in this environment. To put it simply, Shurwest is a performance-based culture. There is a strong entrepreneurial spirit in every department and employees are evaluated not on tenure or other bureaucratic metrics of the past. They are evaluated (and rewarded) on attitude, hard work, and the ability to relentlessly achieve and contribute positively to the company. This is a hyper-successful sales organization in North Scottsdale and leadership doesn't suffer fools or tolerate those that don't contribute to the company. I personally love an environment where I am judged on performance and attitude, but also realize others may not. In closing, one thing that really bothers me about Glassdoor is that they encourage anonymous users to review companies knowing that those companies are legally forbidden from replying to former employees. An anonymous reviewer, who very well may have been terminated for just cause, can put a company on blast while the company is completely limited in responding directly to that former employee. This anonymity also contributes to over-the-top comments and hyperbole by encouraging a "keyboard warrior" mentality. This review system isn't fair and should be changed. To be clear, I believe deeply in the freedom of the internet, but users on Glassdoor should have to identify themselves before leaving any review, positive or negative, about a company which is powerless to address their claims. In that spirit, my name is Brad Spalding and I am the Interactive Director for Annexus, a company founded on many of the same principles that make Shurwest so special.
