Pros
New Mgmt - When I started awhile ago, I believe that management was a bit chaotic. Credit the owner for listening and putting his money where his mouth is. New hires in senior management are really focused on trying to get the process right and they do listen. They have also gotten the owner out of the day to day decision-making process and allow him to focus on what he does best. The new hires are not just mouth pieces, they are really driving process and decision making. It's a real and substantial change. Projects - There are a a lot of varied projects with some very cool clients here. I am extremely impressed. The variety of industries we deal with is impressive and educational. I love it. It's also with clients in New England and beyond -- not just NH. That is what is pretty cool. People - The people here are great. There is a lot of energy and enthusiasm. There is some impressive work being done here. Location - I think the location is great. It's always a plus to not have to be in heavy traffic and a long commute. That may sound a bit lame and a struggle to put something positive here, but I hate long commutes.
Cons
New mgmt - New people bring new ways of doing things. Some may not get on board with that, but this is good change. Data/insight for management is a problem. If you haven't worked in an agency environment before, it can be a bit stressful when you are managing your billable hours. I think there is a challenge with some people feeling that they can't truly be honest about reporting their hours truthfully so that they don't get others in trouble. I think it is a completely solvable problem in that management has encouraged people to report their time accurately. Have people done this? Do they feel they can? If they can't.. then clearly there is a trust issue that needs to be worked on. I can't answer for them. I do believe that the new management is being honest in wanting to make things right. They can't do that without the data though. I think this one issue colors how people view the workload and contributes to the stressful postings that have been on here. Scalability - The company is experiencing a good problem -- growing pains. With every challenge though, comes opportunity. The employees just need to be encouraged to see the opportunity and not focus on the pain of growth. It is admittedly a bit bumpy while this is all figured out. Need the managers to continue to be strong and feel a part of the direction and drive changes. Work life balance - Part of the growing pains is a feeling that we are running a bit lean at the moment. I think this is a solvable problem, but I have to admit that I feel funny taking a vacation day.... but who does in a tech company? I don't think I ever felt comfortable taking a day off at any of my past jobs. We all are always on and connected. 24/7, but that is not a problem specific to SilverTech, that's a problem with society in general. For awhile here, it was pretty rough on time. It is better. Keep it going in that direction.
