If you’re curious what it’s like to work at SiriusXM, here are some quotes from recent publications: “It is possible that a tech-forward and visionary platform like SiriusXM would subscribe to the outdated, boys’ club mentality historically ascribed to terrestrial radio in its programming? Considering how much of its staff has roots in old-school radio, it’s not all that surprising.” – Variety “The culture fit wasn’t right, either, these former employees say. Multiple people pointed to a survey SiriusXM’s HR team asked them to complete about how things were going and the town hall held in response. Employees had raised concerns about diversity within the company but were told in response that they couldn’t have diversity issues because the company employed a female CEO. Another former employee called a “boomer business mentality, like a toxic business mindset.” – The Verge Though the toxic company culture and blatant lack of diversity are major issues, they pale in comparison to the pay. Salaries aren’t even in the same ballpark as competitors and the company continues to hemorrhage talent as a result of this. Full-time employees receive a standard amount of PTO, however it’s impossible for many to take time off due to an uneven distribution of work. Some employees work around the clock while others hardly login. It’s nearly impossible to get fired for performance reasons, so the culture subsequently rewards the laziest employees. This results in a company full of low performers who continue to get away with it, and high performers doing the work of 2-3 people. The culture also promotes hours of unnecessary meetings and "busy work" which makes it nearly impossible to get any actual work done in a regular 8 hour shift. The company is extremely corporate with lots of bureaucracy and red tape. There’s a total lack of transparency from the top down and management tends to lead with fear and intimidation which causes mistrust and insecurity among employees. Important decisions about your salary, growth and future within the company are made by out of touch C-level executives who’ve never met you face to face. With the “outdated boys club mentality” that Variety details in their article, favoritism and politics play a huge role in your experience at SiriusXM. Sadly, what once seemed like a cool, innovative, and progressive company is anything but.
