Pros

1) If you are looking for intellectual satisfaction, this is a wonderful place, full of incredibly smart, seasoned professionals, where some of the most senior technicians can design integration flows. 2) There are a lot of very hard workers here, which encourages your own hard work in return. 3) The product we are bringing to market is highly disruptive and the potential is there (as long as we can manage to increase production, which means more people are needed as well as more tools and equipment). 4) Other fabs typically type-cast you into one area or process module. Here, the sky is the limit, you can have an etch engineer who is also a CMP guy, or a diffusion expert also own wet cleans or etches. 5) Competitive industry pay and benefits.

Cons

1) Not a lot of potential for off-time. 2) Short-staffed, so tons of responsibilities can fall on limited people (especially on night shift) 3) Supply chain and purchasing limited in their ability to perform their jobs due to nature of being a start-up environment.

Pros

Paychecks are consistently on time. The pace of the work encourages rapid learning and exposes employees to a wide range of technical challenges. Great but continuously shrinking team of veteran floor employees.

Cons

Hostile work environment. Chaotic and disorganized. Out of touch and toxic upper management. Extreme micromanaging and paranoia around time theft. Blame culture from upper management. Prioritizes hiring more managers to exert control over floor personnel rather than investing in additional floor personnel or additional resources for floor personnel. No training / procedures out of date for much of the equipment. Sink or swim environment for new hires. Expects output within 1-2 weeks of start date. Safety concerns / no LOTO standards. “Yes men” culture — honest or realistic input is punished. Four months straight of six-day mandatory work weeks 60+ hour weeks with no additional compensation for salaried employees. No recognition for effort. No carrot, only stick / punishment for failure to abide by six-day policy. Moving goalposts on success criteria for returning to original schedule. No accountability for this. Extreme attrition from the process engineering team, on track for 100% team attrition within half a year. HR, more so than other companies, serves as a strong arm for management. Cannot hire or retain experienced process engineers due to the above. Has switched to hiring only desperate fresh grads for low pay who do not have a frame of reference for what is normal and don’t push back on an abusive environment. Revolving door company. If a fresh grad is reading this and the choice is between working here and looking for another few months, save your mental health and keep looking.
