Pros

-Great recruiters with excellent understanding of how to build culture -Great culture building events and diversity initiatives -Smart, talented, and funny co-workers and collaborative environment

Cons

-Promotion and career development process is vague and frustrating. The vast majority of people who manage to receive a promotion will tell you the process was excruciating. Middle managers need training in effectively guiding their direct reports through the promotion process. -I was extremely impressed with our CEO, Executive leaders in Seattle, as well as my local executive team in Denver. However, my particular practice area was led by a PAL that consistently belittled and humiliated her direct reports. Her power hungry, people pleasing, micro-managing behavior created a toxic environment. The only condolence was that the vast majority of consultants on our team felt the same way and we could support each other through her harsh treatment. I want to emphasize that I am referring to one specific PAL, and I do believe that other PALs were very good at people management and well liked by their direct reports.

This is John Tobin. Thanks for your feedback, which seems generally positive with the exception of the PAL you worked with. I would always encourage our employees to raise this concern up to their MD or GM in their market - this feedback would help. I like what you are saying in terms of getting the feedback from one's direct reports before a promotion - we do this during our leadership development programs, but not specifically when we promote people, so this is a good suggestion. I'd be happy to talk to you more about what you saw during your time here - simply email me at johnt@slalom.com to set up a time to speak or I would encourage you to reach out to your former GM or RGM. Alternatively, if you’d like to share more feedback anonymously, please consider doing so via this survey: http://slalom.ws/anonsurvey.

Pros

people are very kind and its a great network to then have for life

Cons

I had 5 managers in 4 years, 3 of which promised me a promotion which I never got I was strung along in a seperate global team for a year and a half and then when I finally was moved to that group they fired 80% of us it's now an up or out company and people are leaving faster than business is coming in, that's been happening for 2 yrs my mental health was so bad i had two burnouts in a single year my last manager emotionally abused me and made me feel like i was a terrible person. I left believing that was why I was fired until i chatted with another former employee of this manager work life balance WAS a thing and in the last two years it's now that consultants are also responsible for selling, travel is a non-negotiable but expectations for travel are not transparent and can impact your yearly review, straight up not enough work and then senior management will make you feel bad for it
