Great company - terrible local market (St Louis) - Principal Consultant Slalom Employee Review

Pros

Run by some of the smartest most caring authentic people who create a great culture as a company. Smart people.

Cons

Too much autonomy given to local markets (cities) can (and did) lead to abuses, politics, and a lot of ugliness that will take years to correct. Culture of the company doesn't necessarily translate to the local market. While some corrections have been made, several of those who created the issues remain in leadership positions. I wish the company well but I could never imagine going back there with that cast of characters. Problems include: * Politics, cliques, favoritism (promoting friends, unwritten rules, ostracize those who do not "play the game") * Saying the right things publicly, doing the wrong things privately * Huge focus on new age mystical philosophy with a meaningful disregard for operating a business * Lack of local leadership (Lots of charisma and personality, but not substance) * Popularity as important (or more) as capability * All hands meetings felt like pep rallies, carefully crafted to generate buzz over substance * Gaslighting by those in positions of power if questioned by those who aren't in their circle / play their games

Pros

people are very kind and its a great network to then have for life

Cons

I had 5 managers in 4 years, 3 of which promised me a promotion which I never got I was strung along in a seperate global team for a year and a half and then when I finally was moved to that group they fired 80% of us it's now an up or out company and people are leaving faster than business is coming in, that's been happening for 2 yrs my mental health was so bad i had two burnouts in a single year my last manager emotionally abused me and made me feel like i was a terrible person. I left believing that was why I was fired until i chatted with another former employee of this manager work life balance WAS a thing and in the last two years it's now that consultants are also responsible for selling, travel is a non-negotiable but expectations for travel are not transparent and can impact your yearly review, straight up not enough work and then senior management will make you feel bad for it
