Comes with good and bad - like any other company - Consultant Slalom Employee Review

Pros

Great people (so clichéd), lots of social events and happy hours. Benefits are getting better and leadership claims sincerity in how they view and value employee surveys and feedback. 4 week sabbatical after 3 years of service and 6000 billed hours and at 75% pay. Good career opportunities if you're fortunate enough to be staffed at the right client. Can be staff aug-ish at times, but the work is usually good. Company is is growth mode and is looking to expand like crazy. I feel I've been treated quite fairly.

Cons

There are great people at other companies too (don't use this as the sole reason to join Slalom). While your client probably allows jeans on Fridays, don't do it if you're going in to the Slalom office. Its frowned upon. No, seriously. Don't do it. Sabbatical ends once (if) you get promoted into a leadership role. Some amount of sucking up is required to be "noticed" by senior leadership. You have to toot your own horn or be left behind in the dust. If you're lucky you'll get a manager who cares about you and will do some tooting on your behalf. Events will always be downtown, if you live in the suburbs, well, too bad. Events are always, always very extravagant. Way too many people are assigned to projects they have no business being staffed on. This is all in the name of billing and keeping that utilization rate high so the revenue numbers look good. So, with this, comes the chance that you will eventually be put on a project that you have no interest in.

This is John Tobin. Thanks for your review. I plan on sharing this with the Chicago leadership team, but I'm also hopeful that you can discuss some of this with your people manager, I absolutely encourage you to do so. Alternatively, I’d love to talk with you about the staffing challenges you see; feel free to email me at johnt@slalom.com to set something up. If you’d like to provide more feedback but remain anonymous, send feedback to feedback@slalom.com. Thanks for considering these other ways to help us continue to improve. This is John T again. As I said I would, I just shared this with the Chicago team. Today is Friday, he did a quick walk around the office and he said 50% of the people in the office were wearing jeans. He did admit that he never wears jeans and said perhaps this sends off a message that you are not supposed to, but he assured me this is not the case. I know there is a lot more to the feedback and not discounting that, but it was interesting getting the real-time feedback. JT

Pros

people are very kind and its a great network to then have for life

Cons

I had 5 managers in 4 years, 3 of which promised me a promotion which I never got I was strung along in a seperate global team for a year and a half and then when I finally was moved to that group they fired 80% of us it's now an up or out company and people are leaving faster than business is coming in, that's been happening for 2 yrs my mental health was so bad i had two burnouts in a single year my last manager emotionally abused me and made me feel like i was a terrible person. I left believing that was why I was fired until i chatted with another former employee of this manager work life balance WAS a thing and in the last two years it's now that consultants are also responsible for selling, travel is a non-negotiable but expectations for travel are not transparent and can impact your yearly review, straight up not enough work and then senior management will make you feel bad for it
