I worked as a Sales Rep for SmartRoof in Reston, VA until my resignation in March 2026. The front-end commission advance system initially appears attractive, but it creates significant problems upon departure. After leaving, the company initially demanded I repay over $2,000 in “unearned” front-end commissions on jobs I had signed contracts on and that were fully installed — despite having texts and emails from two Executive level sales employees confirming I would be paid in full for my jobs. They only retracted the demand after pushback. It appears the COO and finance team operate with a significantly less ethical interpretation of the policy than sales leadership. Don't believe them when they tell you that if the roofing contract is signed prior to you leaving, you'll be paid. While their policy is legal, it is highly unethical. SmartRoof will likely respond to this review with standard boilerplate language about “fair policies” and “isolated misunderstandings.” This is not an isolated case. I've spoken to 4 other people that quit in March 2026 that have had the same problem. One of which was routinely recognized as the hardest working salesperson in the entire company. Another was a team lead. SR decided not to pay them too. If they're willing to do this to former employees, I can't imagine what unethical things they'd do to homeowners or insurers. Separately, the CEO seems to have some unethical decision making in his past too. Feel free to ask him about what happened in the Summer / Fall of 2024
