Pros

There are a lot of positives, including a friendly staff, a really broad range of types of projects, and work in all subject areas. The firm has a good reputation and is known in the M&E community. It is also known as a place that is very selective in its hiring. So getting a job there is a real score. There is an emphasis on learning and you can easily find colleagues (though not always senior staff) will help walk you through something. The company also gives you a lot of opportunities to try things that are more advanced and not just occupy junior staff with busy work (though there is a lot of that too!). Staff also seem really committed to producing good work for the client and have a genuine interest in what they are doing. They really care.

Cons

The company is growing which has definitely caused a strain. There isn't enough support staff and overall people at the company seem to be working very long hours, nights and weekends. They really need to hire additional staff, but they have been slow to do so. So, even though staff really care about the work they are doing, it is a struggle to keep the quality as high as they would like it to be, simply due to so many demands on their time. The management claim that they are concerned, but been have been stating their concern without doing too much about it. The owners also seem to be less and less present and when they are there, only seem to turn to a couple of staff who they have known for a long time. Sometimes I think they overlook really good people.

Pros

The name of the company leads people to believe it is an impactful place to work for. It's not.

Cons

The new administration shut down nearly all work at SI because of the way they handled USAID. There is a skeleton staff now, but the good workers have moved on.
