Pros
Let's be honest. Job security and retirement benefits are the main "perk" of federal employment. This job does allow some telework, but the current administration is attempting to end it and has already eliminated it for some groups of employees (e.g. paralegals), so don't count on this remaining available. There is paid vacation and sick leave, and parental leave has been passed by Congress but not actually enacted by OPM. You will only have to work a 40 hour work week.
Cons
Management will think you are the enemy at all times. Depending on your office, the work environment will range from strained to toxic. The quality of your training will depend almost entirely on your mentor. You will have strict quotas and legal decisions will be treated as interchangeable widgets. You will be told you are not a real lawyer, barred from using JD after your name, and reminded you do not represent the agency in any legal capacity. You have no opportunity to advance. Raises occur only as indicated in the pay schedule. CLE and bar fees will not be paid. When management mismanages your workload, you may find yourself demoted to call center employee because they can't find enough work for you.
