Pros

Benefits are good as well as the work schedule. The employees are cordial and really try to help each other with heavy, complicated workloads. There is a great work/family balance.

Cons

Ratings for jobs within Social Security can differ based on the area of the country and/or local management. There should be uniform training across the county for each job. Our veterans deserve a huge round of applause for their service, but most of them usually quit quickly after being hired because of workload pressure and they already receive military pay. There’s no incentive for them to deal with excessive workloads. They take up space for workers who really need the job. Employees sympathize with claimants who try to reach SSA via phone, but more employees are needed. Thousands of calls are received, but there’s not enough fully trained employees to answer the phone and resolve problems. Local management will design a workflow, but has no idea what it takes for an employee to obtain an objective. Most of management has no clue what it takes to do a particular workload. They track everything by computer listing s with no feedback from employees who actually do the work. This creates backlogs and complaints from the public.
