Pros
Supportive peers and management , good work life balance (while work from home still exists - lack of commute). Serving the people in your community. 401k match up to 5%, pension, good PTO accrual. Neutral, depending your expectations - The job is A LOT of data entry and output with no room for error. Overtime occasionally available (on Sat/Sun) depending on available funding. It has never been a requirement to work OT M-F, and the workload you can perform during OT is specific. Frequent admin/commissioner change. If you don’t think the SSA is doing something efficient, wait a few years and it will likely change.
Cons
Never a slow day and nothing has “back burner” status, peers are supportive but just as busy so no one is able to provide assistance with your workload. Frequent changes in internal court rules can make it hard to set “best practices”. Infrequently, people will threaten “harm” to you, your office building, etc., after the outcome of their case is not favorable.
