Pros

Young culture Fast growing, here to stay Tendency to promote form within

Cons

Most of the five star reviews are predictably from sales representatives. It makes sense. With the customer base growing rapidly, there is a lot of commission to be made, and they are making it. But from the inside, things are very different. I work in an administrative position. First thing to know: if you're going to work at a customer-facing job AFTER the sales representative has received commission, you'll need thick skin. The unfortunate reality is that many of the sales are made through blatant lying, and misrepresentation. After the sale is made, the representative neither cares nor is held responsible for the customer that was just passed over to the rest of the company. Customers are very often angry and confused about the agreement they've signed, and rightfully so. There is no accountability system to hold these representatives responsible for their very unethical business practices on the field, and there doesn't seem to be any system in the works. Simple reason: they're the reason why the company is growing so rapidly. Management turns a blind eye. Next point: the company is growing faster than it can handle. New employees are cramming for space. Protocols are underdeveloped. Departments are overworked and understaffed. There is job security in the sense that the company is around for the long haul. There isn't in the sense that your department might be changing drastically tomorrow, perhaps even being dissolved. The psuedo-inspirational jingoism serves as a great distraction. You're constantly told you're "changing the world" and "making it a better place" when in reality you're regurgitating parsed language to get customers to stop spitting and cursing on the phones. There are a lot of kinks to be straightened out with this company, some very obvious positive points, but i think my perspective is underrepresented and need to gain more visibility.

Pros

Just to quantify my review a bit, I am within the top 10% of inside sales reps within our 12,000 person company. It is a great place to work and people doing well ARE able to make good money here. The executive team ALWAYS has a platform for reps to help make SolarCity a better place every quarter. They involve the top 20 reps each quarter in various ways to help their peers through an interactive group called Team Elite. Executives, VP's, Directors, and Managers are always willing to help and go to bat when there are issues with things that need to be fixed. The direction of the company is consistent and although the company is large, decision makers work as hard as possible to steer the big ship quickly when necessary.

Cons

Knee jerk reactions with decision making at a director level create issues from time to time. Culture has had its ups and downs due to HUGE growth last year and subsequent high attrition rates.
