Pros

good benefits, management can be good depending on who your direct supervisor is

Cons

Overworked, underpaid, too much red tape. Lower level staff will never afford a house or a family even though they are asked to take on more and more projects, tasks, etc. Salaries do not match the cost of living in the surrounding commutable area. No upward mobility so there’s no way to work up to a better salary. Those at the top make EXPONENTIALLY more and are usually unreachable for support because they are also pulled in too many directions. Don’t expect to be able to be proactive in your position, as there are way too many steps and people who need to review every single communication or process. No agency in work for this reason. There no doubt is a need for a level of review, but ultimately everything has to float to the top in order to move forward, making progress move at a glacial pace. On top of that, some employees make it a toxic culture since they will only respond and work with administrators and not their peers.
