Pros

A company that helps you prioritize taking care of your mental health and gives you a chance to help in the community. Great for developing experience in the social work and mental health/ recovery industry. They help you become a peer specialist as well as offer many trainings.

Cons

The pay, due to it being a non-profit and the wear and tear on your car driving all over Broward.

Pros

Great temporary place to work, get your credentials and move on to better things. You occasionally get to see growth and sobriety in some of the individuals you assist. Sense of fulfilment from helping community and fighting stigma. Some amazing coworkers trying to do the best they can.

Cons

Self Care and wellness is such a throw around word used so loosely they forget what it really means. Despite a lot of talk of boundaries you're in the dog house if you dare to practice taking care of yourself first. The turnover is self explanatory. A lot of people in "recovery" with no program or even a therapist. Their pathway is work. So basically replacing one addiction or co-dependance for another, especially management. The CEO has seasonal manic episodes where she needs to self care every Spring and "cleanse". This usually means a vacation where she's gone for over a week comes back and fires anywhere from 6 to 10 people who looked at her the wrong way. Everyone else is left to pick up the slack and workload left to distribute sideways. Managers are all "Yes Ma'ams" who signed a blood oath to the CEO and just tell the subordinates this is just how it is. They seem to hire anyone with 2 years of sobriety and desperately looking to give back to their community, This makes for an easy and vulnerable mindset to exploit and take advantage of.
