Pros

PTO and Holidays are generous. Student outcomes in hands on healthcare programs are very good in comparison to similar institutions.

Cons

Laziness and incompetence have been an issue for a long time in many departments. Upper management has made poor decisions that have resulted in major financial challenges. They don't spend money on the right areas that could make exponential differences in enrollment of students and retention of employees. Marketing is very poor compared to the local competition. South has been slow to acknowledge the increase in competition and the changing times as far as what attracts and retains students. The online classes that many students prefer are lacking in some of the more engaging technology that other schools offer. Students would have far better online outcomes if the content in the online classes was a higher standard. Employees went for many years with no 401k match, up until the last year and raises have been non-existent for 7-8 years. Raises have been promised 3 years in a row, only to fail to be delivered each time. While pay is not bad, it is disheartening to know that many people have missed out of thousands of dollars worth of raises over those years. They have lost a lot of good employees over feeling unvalued and knowing in today's climate that a lot of companies are increasing their benefits to attract employees. Another major distraction is the fact that during the start of Covid, all employees worked remotely with great success. After 7 months they forced employees at the campuses to go back but have continued to allow the online division to work from home. They have banned campus employees from working from home even after Covid exposure. Until recently, employees on campuses who were exposed to Covid and/or got sick were told they had to use PTO. Discontentment among employees is higher than ever and many are still planning to leave for more money and flexible work.

Pros

Pay was within industry standards for my position (although on the low end). I met some awesome people, they just weren't around for long (see cons).

Cons

No training provided at all. Very high turnover. The amount of people who left or were fired during my time there was unbelievable. I knew that this was an issue with South, but did not know that it would be this bad. This turnover prevented the creation of meaningful connections with others. They do not always hire the most qualified people. Management is unhelpful and often distant. During my stint I had 5 different supervisors. My first supervisor was by far the best, but this person was suddenly fired or resigned. I believe that this is a problem from the top down. In my opinion supervisors do not get help or get unreasonable expectations from their supervisors and this filters down to others. Money is always tight and we are often unable to get what we need. Cross departmental communication is rare. Culture of fear exists. Employees are terminated seemingly for vague reasons and sometimes not even given details of why they were terminated or given a chance to defend themselves. Do not work here.
