Pros

New CEO (Rick Mendoza) seems to really be working his butt off to change this place and make some seriously positive improvements. If only the tenured directors and staff would allow him to do so, this place could be great to work! (CEO rating is for Rick, the current CEO - NOT Steven Yoho) Salary is competitive. While training is an absolute nightmare (and is full of inconsequential irrelevancies - if you're even qualified to be in admissions or sales, they spend the entire time training you on things you ALREADY KNOW, rather than how to use the absolutely archaic systems), trainers are friendly but train you on things that honestly couldn't matter less... then you're left on your own when it comes to actually doing your day to day job. Then... held to account for your numbers when you're teaching yourself HOW to do your job every day, all day, and can't be available for new calls. Inbound calls, leads are a nightmare. Marketing companies send over "students" who have no interest in school and think they're being transferred over to a job recruiter. While this is normal, to at least some extent, MAN... not like this. It's embarrassing and constantly being harped at to get available for these 90% garbage leads takes away from properly taking care of any current students who really DO deserve your time and attention. (Also, horrible for employee morale... everyone's nervous about getting barked at for not being available, even when they're doing something important and beneficial for a student who IS a good fit and SERIOUS about school.) Pros seem to be directly related to the team you are placed on and the manager's individual style... so, you're either lucky or completely SOL. Another pro would be that they're TRYING to implement a new CRM, but from what I've heard it's still a nightmare.

Cons

No solid format for order of operations or processes. Working with a SOME departments can be okay, while with others (Transcom) is an absolute nightmare in which you can expect to, not only do THEIR JOB for them, but get berated by that department's employees... while doing their jobs for them. Long term employees (ARs) make it hard for everyone else to move forward. I'm sorry, but if you're working for an online university, you need to evolve and be willing to learn how to AT LEAST convert a .pdf file... at the ABSOLUTE least. It's embarrassing how they tip-toe around their long term employees, when they seem to be some of the ones that hold the company back in the worst ways. I mean, seriously.... covid hit, yes... it sucked for everyone, but it's also the way the world is turning now. On top of that, if you call one of their most "expert" teams (in Nursing), actual experts, you'd be either joking or completely uninformed. They may know about aspects of the nursing processes, but bending over backwards for people who simply REFUSE to learn how to use a simple computer chat app (MS Teams), well, it's just embarrassing. They need to hold their more tenured employee's feet to the fire to get with the picture or figure out a different option for work. Not only are they completely unwilling to learn new technologies, but they seem to be the most jaded and have actual negative assumptions about every single student they've come into contact with. Makes it hard on everyone else, and it becomes a joke when trying to implement ANY sort of balanced structure or communication processes/procedures throughout the entire company. Much less, to feel GOOD about the other people students may be working with. Last note: It seems like they chose to design the CRM without any insight from the actual admissions staff, who are actually working the grind every day. After speaking with people from the testing teams, it seems like there's no real benefit to their new CRM, and boy oh boy, have they tried out a few and wasted money on them. Time to listen to people who have insight, and if others aren't willing to learn new things, they probably need to have a discussion with their director about why they're willing to work at a job in which they're not willing to move with the times - or appreciate their students and not blame their own faults/misgivings on a student who is "Simply incompetent". Come on.... It's the student, EVERY TIME? Incredibly frustrating.

Pros

Pay was within industry standards for my position (although on the low end). I met some awesome people, they just weren't around for long (see cons).

Cons

No training provided at all. Very high turnover. The amount of people who left or were fired during my time there was unbelievable. I knew that this was an issue with South, but did not know that it would be this bad. This turnover prevented the creation of meaningful connections with others. They do not always hire the most qualified people. Management is unhelpful and often distant. During my stint I had 5 different supervisors. My first supervisor was by far the best, but this person was suddenly fired or resigned. I believe that this is a problem from the top down. In my opinion supervisors do not get help or get unreasonable expectations from their supervisors and this filters down to others. Money is always tight and we are often unable to get what we need. Cross departmental communication is rare. Culture of fear exists. Employees are terminated seemingly for vague reasons and sometimes not even given details of why they were terminated or given a chance to defend themselves. Do not work here.
